Suggestions for Easy Homepage

Nice Feature! Now, I got a few suggestions to Improve It. smile

1. The "Edit" & "Refresh" Icon do not need to be visible at all time, they make the Slot look too crowded. My suggestion would be make them only visible when the cursor is hover/roll-over on the slot, or just simply take them out & included this functions into the right-click context-menu when we right-click on one of the slot.

2. The "search" section is not necessary because we already have one in the browser. I think it can be eliminated and save the space for something more useful. (more slot!)

3. More slots! 9 is ok, but if you can make it 16 it will be even better! (4x4)

4. The X inside the slots should be name: "Clear Slot", not "Close"! Because it's function is to clear the contents inside the slot...

5. "Config Easy Homepage" is not really needed to be on the page... So, is it possible to just included it into the preferences section? It took out a lot of space & we only need to use it once! (in the beginning) If you can take out the "search" & "config" from the page, then you can included more slots in the page.

6. Ok, this is not really important, but nice to have... display the address (URL) of the slot when the cursor is "rest" on one of the slot. (inside the status bar, just like when we "hover" the cursor on a web-link)

Re: Suggestions for Easy Homepage

1. Easy to do thus ok for my
2. I think it too but if should be customizable in settings
3. 9 slot is already the maximum of slot in a short resolution and I think 16 will be too short to be beautyfull
4. A detail but yes, if you want wink
5. Hum, it's an HTML page thus I don't see how it's possible to modify the settings outside it but I can't change it whitout the developpers
6. It's doable, too... thus if you want, we can do it

Re: Suggestions for Easy Homepage

Very nice work FremyCompany!

I can't get 6 to work at all.

It looks very clean and much nicer with the Search bar turned off IMO.

Re: Suggestions for Easy Homepage

FremyCompany,

For me at least, no luck with the latest version for implementation of request 6

I have tried with all other add-ons disabled and in Protected Mode On and Off in Vista.

I appreciate your efforts.

Re: Suggestions for Easy Homepage

If you use Vista, don't forget to unlock the file after pasting it to the good emplacement....
If the 6 don't work on your computer please tell me your configuration... Are you all using Vista ?

Re: Suggestions for Easy Homepage

Hi FremyCompany,

testet the new build on an other computer (which is also running Windows XP Pro SP2 as my computer) and the 6 isn't working.

To clearify number 6 and for no misunderstanding:
If 6 would be working the URL should be displayed after a short time the mouse pointer is other an slot (currently only the image as you stated), or not!?

I will test the new build on my computer an update my post (also with my config, if you need more information).

Re: Suggestions for Easy Homepage

@suril : Do you have unlocked the file after the download ? It's indispensable ! If you don't do this, IE will consider the file don't exist...

I'm using XP SP2, I thought I only needed to unlock it if I had vista, if I need to unlock it, how do I do that?

Re: Suggestions for Easy Homepage

FremyCompany , I heard that window.status is not usable in IE7 to prevent cheating, maybe this is the problem for 6.
An alternative method is using <a href="xxxxxxx"> , just
1 change

<div id="imgshow<?index?>" class="imgshow" onmouseover="setStatus(pageThumbs[<?index?>-1][0])" onmouseout="setStatus('')" onclick="openBox(<?index?>,event)">

to

<div id="imgshow<?index?>" class="imgshow">

2 change

<!--<img id="Image<?index?>" src="img/blank.gif" height="100%" width="100%" style="cursor:hand;" oncontextmenu="menuBox(<?index?>, event)" />-->

to

<!--<a href="" onclick="openBox(<?index?>,event);reture false;"><img id="Image<?index?>" src="img/blank.gif" height="100%" width="100%" style="cursor:hand;" oncontextmenu="menuBox(<?index?>, event)" /></a>-->

3 define the href when page loading

Config in IE7Pro Preference may make IE7Pro more confusing by normal user and more difficult to change and add features in future. As you know, C++ developing is a little  difficult that JS . I would like to suggest to put it beside the google search bar , if you agree ,I would go to plan a new design of the page.

Re: Suggestions for Easy Homepage

Ok, finally I get the page to work, it looks a lot better!!! Thank You FremyCompany  again. big_smile

Now, I have another suggestions for further improvement tongue (not urgent... take your time!)

1. Modified the "Config Easy Homepage" button (since it's impossible to take it out of the page), instead of put it in the center-lower-bottom of the page, please move it to the corner of the page (any corner you like) & reduce the size of the button; We will still understand it's function of the button if we see the "Config" word, so eliminate the "Easy Homepage" to minimize spaces needed for a smaller button. Now, we have more vertical spaces for the Slots to spread out a little more smile

2. Sorry, but I didn't notice it at first before the change... but now I see another improvement can be done - Increase the displayed length for the titles inside the Slots. Currently, only 2/3 of the horizontal space is used to display the title... So, is it possible to increase the allowed space to display longer titles? NOTE: The Icons will be overlay/cover some part of the title during "hover", but I think it's fine that way...

3. This one can be ignored if you think it's too hard or impossible to be done - Allow user to add an currently opened tab into the Slot in Easy Homepage.

Thank You very much! big_smile

Re: Suggestions for Easy Homepage

I've found the problem of 6.
This is a security settings that's enabled on my computer but that's disabled by default !
I'm not sure of the translation but it's so : "Allow update of the status bar via script". If this option is disabled, the page can change the text of the status bar...

For more comprehension, the 3 new propositions of dude will be called "d1, d2 and d3".

d1 : The button is so long because some translations take more space than the english terms... For the button placement, currently it'snt possible to change but I'll try to change the design to allow the button to be moved...

d2: I had seen this problem too, I'm currently finding a way to fix it

d3 : Can't be done wihtout any C++ change

Re: Suggestions for Easy Homepage

@support guy : It'snot possible to put the button on the search bar because a lot of people will be able to hide it...
